By prioritising mental health at work, together we can create a more inclusive, supportive and successful work environment for everyone.

Stress and mental ill health are a major contributor to absenteeism in the workplace. Therefore it is good for business to ensure that employers can manage stress effectively, and to have an open policy of talking and engaging in conversations about stress and mental health in the workplace.

Society’s ignorance of mental health results in stigma, discrimination, and stereotyping however this is due to limited knowledge and false understanding of mental health conditions.

Stigma can lead to discrimination. Discrimination may be obvious and direct, such as someone making a negative remark about your mental illness or your treatment.

According to St Patricks Mental Health Services Survey 2021:

66% believe that being treated for a mental health difficulty is still seen by Irish society as a sign of personal failure."

One in four adults experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem in any given year in their adult life.
